How to convert an image to an embroidery file
FreeEmbroideryDigitizer.com turns a picture into a machine embroidery file in a few seconds. It runs entirely in your browser: your image is never uploaded, and it is free.
Open the free converterStep by step
- Open the converter and choose an image (PNG with a transparent background works best, but JPG and SVG are fine too).
- Set the width or height in millimetres. The program shows the recommended minimum size for your image.
- Choose the number of colours. Each colour becomes a layer that you can recolour, reorder, hide or delete.
- Check the stitch preview. Zoom in to see every stitch, and click a part to change its thread colour or stitch type.
- Pick the format of your machine and press Download.
Tips for a clean result
- Simple drawings with clear shapes stitch best. Photos need a lot of simplification.
- Do not make the design too small: details under about 1 mm (eyes, dots) merge or disappear.
- Lines should be at least 0.5 mm wide in the final size.
- Always use a stabiliser under the fabric, otherwise the fabric puckers and gaps appear.
- Sew a test piece first, especially on dark fabric or with a new thread.
